Not everyone wants to scuba dive, and as a sub aqua club, ESAC fully supports snorkelling. Snorkelling is fun, easy to learn and a brilliant way to explore the underwater world. It’s perfect for all ages – whether you’re looking for a new hobby, a family activity or a way to meet great people who love the water as much as you do.
BSAC since 1950s have run the Snorkeller Training Programme which has been updated and improved to keep pace with developments in equipment and snorkelling knowledge. The programme is designed to build confidence and self-reliance, whilst keeping safety uppermost.
We have trained a snorkelling coach at the club, who is happy to work with members and anyone looking to develop their skills.
Of course, we do have some members who are younger than 12 years, and cannot yet learn to scuba dive.
The snorkelling skills they will develop will provide them with great confidence in the water if they choose to start diving after their 12th birthday.
What gear will I need?
Basic equipment for snorkelling and training in a pool is just a mask, fins and a snorkel.
At ESAC we are able to provide the equipment for trainee’s use. Please just ask!

Snorkelling is a great introduction the wonders of the underwater world and perfect for families to enjoy together.
– BSAC’s President HRH The Prince of Wales is a keen supporter of BSAC snorkelling.
